Featured Project: Full Course Design, Digital Citizenship for Secondary Students

This Canvas course highlights my approach to designing engaging, learner-centered online instruction. Designed using an agile framework and aligned with ISTE Standards, the course emphasizes intentional learning progression through well-defined objectives, interactive content, and formative assessments.
➤ I designed a Canvas course on digital citizenship for secondary students based on discussions with an SME on gaps in an existing EdTech curriculum and the needs of 21st-century learners. The result is an asynchronous learning experience for middle and high school students, with modules on safety, responsibility, and respect, as well as on the social, psychological, and physical consequences of online behavior. Each module contained objectives, videos, relevant research articles, reflection activities, and assessments.
➤ Building an eight-week eLearning course provided an excellent experience to work with Learning Experience Design (LXD) strategies, such as course mapping, learner experience mapping, and production scheduling. The Successive Approximation Model (SAM) allowed me to practice agile project management and remain flexible and reflective throughout the design process.

➤ To better empathize with the needs of secondary learners, I conducted learner research through interviews, online surveys, and direct observation. This research informed the creation of learner personas in Canva and a learner journey map in Miro. I figuratively stepped into my learners' shoes to build authentic stories about their lives and educational needs. Creating narratives that defined the majority of learners kept their needs central throughout the design process.

➤ I designed supplemental instructional graphics and thoughtfully integrated them into the course to introduce modules and key concepts. Canva enabled me to create banners, content graphics, and short videos that supported comprehension, reduced cognitive load, and contributed to a welcoming experience. With an awareness of how overwhelming digital learning environments can be, I prioritized clear, high-impact visuals and a consistent design to help secondary learners easily navigate the course and focus on essential content.

➤ A microlearning-informed knowledge check was created in Articulate's Rise 360 and embedded within the Canvas course to give learners a low-pressure opportunity to pause, reflect, and confirm their understanding of key concepts. By keeping the activity brief and focused, I aimed to support confidence, reduce cognitive load, and help learners address misconceptions in a supportive way.
